NEC’s UNIVERGE 3C Accredited as Unified Capabilities Session Controller (UC SC) by U.S. Department of Defense UNIVERGE 3C Added to Unified Capabilities Approved Product List
NEC Corporation of America (NEC), a leading provider and integrator of advanced IT, communications, managed services and biometric solutions, today announced the US Department of Defense (DoD) has accredited NEC’s UNIVERGE 3C™ software-based unified communications and collaboration solution (UC&C) as a UC Session Controller. The accreditation for defense-wide deployments as a UC SC was granted by the DoD’s Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Unified Capabilities Certification Office for meeting military grade security, functionality and reliability requirements.
The NEC UNIVERGE 3C Session Controller is a key component to the DoD UC Master Plan. The DoD has defined a strategy to migrate more than 3 million lines of TDM based communication systems to all IP with UC&C within the next decade. The NEC UC SC provides the switching, UC and collaboration features, and related applications, client software and devices to empower user communications. UC SC’s utilizes end-to-end SIP capabilities bolstered with assured services requirements, tested to ensure multi-vendor interoperability and certain command and control features. The NEC UC SC is deployable anywhere in the world on the Defense Information Services Network (DISN) and the IPv6 capable Global Information Grid (GIG). External connections accept any combination of standard SIP trunks or gateways to commercial, joint, coalition or DoD networks. NEC’s UNIVERGE 3C is also the first UC Session Controller to support a range of standards-based SIP IP phones for use on DoD networks.
Accreditation from the DoD focuses on reliability and the critical need to support converged critical voice, video and data over IP. The DoD UC Session Controller testing process performs thousands of tests and validation measures over several months in the areas of security, reliability, high availability and UC functionality. It also validates standards-based interoperability to both local IT infrastructure and across the DoD GIG to existing communications systems.
